When you turn the key to lock the door, you also turn the door lock cylinder. When this happens, a strong spring pushes the shank foot into a fixed position, thus securing the door. For some doors, on the inside, there is a central button that you can press to lock it. door lock cylinder actually does the same job as a key inside the cylinder, but in much less time.
